Being an Engineer, why do you want to be a Tech now? But you've already chosen this career path and applied to a college; what restricts you to apply for a visa? What specifically are you asking here?

Dear,

Thanks for your prompt response. Being an engineer I am applying to a technician diploma course which is very argumentative indeed. I know my situation. I don't have adequate level of practical experience which is required to get a job in industries. As you know, without practical experience I won't be able to get a job. That's why I applied for this course. May be, I asked a stupid question. What I am trying to say is, weather this decision of mine will help me to develop my career?

Getting a PG diploma after an engineering degree sounds desperate to get a job or PR. Moreover, it will also narrow your field to "instrumentation". It's true that a tech here lands with a job normally faster than a university grad mainly because s/he has more hands-on experience, more job availability, less pay and unionized hiring process. Upon your PG; a Canadian employer will evaluate you as a technician; not as an engineer although it could act as an advantage for you. But in the long run, an engineer will always supersede a tech re: promotions, pay increase, career development and so on.

Particularly talking about Confederation College at Thunder Bay, I've no clue. FYI, Thunder Bay is one of the coldest cities of Ontario.

If I were you, I would go for Masters at a university in Canada. If I can't secure admission, I may try for a good college if I MUST go to Canada.

Dear,

Thanks again for the time. Yes, you are right that my decision indicates that I am desperate to get a job or PR. Desperation is for getting a job than PR. When I completed my graduation, my dream was to take a Master's degree in my respective area. But, due to my family problem I was forced to change my decision. I gave up my dream. Now I am thinking else. I will go for this course. Hopefully expecting to complete this. Then with my own money after few years (If I get a job) I will complete my masters degree. I know it's a difficult path what I have chosen. But, I believe in myself. But one thing, I am thinking after reading your post is that, what you told about confederation college is just because it's cold weather or the college is too bad itself? This is the last thing I want to know from you.

What you said in the review was perfect but I am bound to take this kind of decision. Because, I believe, "Good days are come after lots of hard work and determination." Thanks again to you for giving a sensible review.

Moreover, I forgot to add one thing in my post. My course is about "Instrumentation Engineering Technician- Process, Automation and Control (CO-op).
Regards,

Mohammad Wally Ullah

Honestly, I don't know if the college is good/bad. But it's among top 5 colleges in Ontario according to Maclean's. Thunder Bay is one of the few cities in North-West region of Ontario, kind of isolated from all major Southern cities. And yes, it's colder than southern part.

Co-op is the key word that maximizes your chances of getting a job after graduation.
