Hi - my wife will land in April as PR, but may have to travel to US in May for customer meetings.

Can anyone tell how this will affect her RO?? Will the days stayed out of Canada be counted as part of her RO or not?? Though she will be getting Canadian salary and will pay taxes in that period.

Pls let me know.

Thanks.

Won't count.

OK. Means, as soon as she steps out, the 730 day counter will stop and will continue as soon as she enters back. Right??

Also note that her departure day and return day counts as 1 day out total. So if she leaves on a friday and returns on a monday, it counts as 3 days out (friday and monday combined = 1 day)

Thanks a lot, folks! Muchos Gracias!!

Ironically, if you are a Canadian citizen and were both to move to the US, ...I believe her days there would count towards her RO.

Maybe you should get a second home near where her meetings are scheduled, and tag along with her. ;)

Each day or part day where you are physically present in Canada counts as 1 full day in Canada for PR with reference to a calendar day i.e. midnight is your switch over point. So if you left Canada Friday and returned Monday then you would have 2 days of absence i.e. Saturday and Sunday. Friday and Monday count in the RO. Most people have issues when they arrive at the border past midnight (more usual at a land border) and inadvertently miscalculate their days!

hmmm. didn't know that. I assumed PR RO calculation was the same as citizenship. I guess it is more lenient.
