Need to renew passport - Will it affect my current work permit

My wife needs to renew her passport as it's expiring soon. What happens with her current work permit which is attached to that passport? Will her work permit be affected or can she simply renew her passport?

Her work permit probably expires on the date of her passport expiry. Once she renews her passport, she will have to renew her work permit.

but what if she wants to renew her passport before her work permit expires? Is the work permit no longer valid?

Yes it still valid to it's expiry date.
