Hello Everyone

Applied to FSW program in late 2013 with Geoscientist category. Bachelor's done in the US university in Geoscience and Mathematics along with 5+ years of experience in the United States as well in different capacities for oil companies and service companies all around the US.

Really need advice, if anyone encountered any issues with application process in this category or Engineering. I basically want to know the timeline for FSW Geoscientist category to be approved for Permanent Residency.

Greatly appreciate your responses.

Regards
Lithmaster

Re: Need Timeline advice to FSW application for 2014, Geologist Category

Hello lithmaster

I believe you meant "late 2013". For the FSWP 2013, Govt of Canada promised processing in one year period. So far things are moving well. Normal time between date of arrival of application package at CIO Nova Scotia and fee encashmant is 2 to 3 months. Then if the application passes initial eligibility checks and points add up to 67 or more, positive eligibility review (PER) follows within a couple of weeks. Then 4 to 6 months wait for medicals request... n finally PPR.

Oh and of you submitted a complete application, you are definitely in the game.

Happy waiting

Dear ESZB

Thank you for taking time to reply to my message. I did hear good things about visa processes moving forward at a good pace. Do you know whether adjudicating officer is going to see my application to be competitive because of my education and experience is both from the United States. I am sure they treat all application as equals but do they have preference category for being from same continent.

Hello lithmaster,

Preference only exists if an applicant has a job offer from a Canadian employer. This means preference over those without a job offer. Superficially, no other preference criteria seems to exist in economic immigration program.

If there was, then perhaps we could raise questions on the fairness of the system...isnt it? :)

Dear ESZB

Thank you for the note. You certainly make sense. I was wondering if you can help me with another query. Here is the total score on IELTS I received

IELTS Listening 7.0
IELTS Reading 5.5
IELTS Writing 8.5
IELTS Speaking 7.5
IELTS Overall Band 7.0

The reading part really crapped out on me. I am not sure if this is going to be an issue or grounds for dismissal for application. Do they look at the overall or each individual category for language requirement. I did research and I heard this can be circumvented. Please let me know your thoughts.

Your score is too low to apply for PR through FSW. You need a minimum score of 6 in each category otherwise your application will be automatically refused. Right now you have a 5.5 - this will guarantee refusal. You need to re-write exam and increase your score.

Agreed with scylla. They do look take into account band in each module. For FSWP 2013 and probably further also, you need at least a 6.0 in all modules of IELTS (GT) otherwise your file will be returned without any processing.
