We practically have everything ready to submit to the CPC office but the police clearance from the FBI. What would everyone suggest I do? Should we just submit it and then send in the police report when it comes in? Or do we wait for the report to come in and send it altogether?

How long will it take for you to have the FBI?

We sent it a week ago and on the FBI website it states that it can take up 16-18 weeks. I don't if it will take that long or not.

I think its more secure to wait and so they will just look at your papers one time. :)

Just my thoughts.. Hope this helps.

FYI, I got my FBI clearance in 5 weeks. I mailed in Dec 2012 and got it in Jan 2013 inside Canada.

Individual times vary, but I haven't seen anyone here say they had to wait more than 6 weeks.

If you decide to mail the application without the FBI clearance, but aware CIC may return your application as incomplete. It's possible they won't be able to match the two envelopes together. They might also send you a letter requesting the FBI clearance - a good sign they couldn't put two and two together.

Personally, I would wait as CIC requests complete applications as much as possible.

I agree with Amikety - it's your responsibility to get all the papers together, and unless you have a good reason to send it now, then you should wait.
A good reason could be: having to get several police certificates from different countries, and since they expire after 3 months, then you have a good reason. I did that for mine ( I had to send 6 different certificates...), and once I got to 4, I could not wait to send otherwise the first ones would expire by the time I got the last one. So I sent my file, explaining my reasoning, and it was accepted. but if you have only one certificate, I wouldn't do it.
Good luck,
Sweden

Probably a good idea! :-) in fact - now that I counted again - it was 7 police certificates that I needed. Got 4 on time for the application, and asked for a dispensation for the 5th one (country in war now, not really possible to get a Police Certificate!) and sent it. Got the 6th one and sent it to London... kept on working on getting the 7th one while explaining to london why it was delayed and what I had tried... must have convinced them, because indeed - I got my PR!
but yes - Sweden is not really accurate! :-)

Thanks everyone for your opinions :D

I really appreciate it!

Yeesh! 7?? I have a strong feeling, having an occupation as an esl teacher, that by the age of 30 I wouldn't be surprised if I had to get that many!! Just as well I'm applying now then haha!

And as for the thread id wait for it. If you have 1, wait. Its a requirement to submit a police cert so you need at least 1! :)

I agree with the other posters...it's better to wait for your FBI clearance :).

I'n sponsoring my Indonesian wife to Canada, and we're applying outland through Singapore. I actually called the Singapore visa office and spoke to an officer, who mentioned that we could send my wife's police certificate once the Singapore office requests for it.

Despite what the officer said, we still decided to wait for my wife's police clearance anyway, and then submitted it along with the application. It felt more secure that way :)
