IMO you would be best to try before you get married. Assuming your fiance has the strong ties to the home country and can convince them that he/she will return home after a visit your chances would be better in getting a TRV. After you apply for sponsorship your chances of getting approved are greatly reduced as they normally think that they will go to Canada and just stay there.
