Hello!!
I want to sponsor my wife that stay in Sydney Australia,we already fill up many forms but its become really hard at 'Sponsored Spouse/Partner Questionnaire [IMM 5490]'
We meet each other on internet 1 year ago, lately i visited Sydney for few weeks and we get married. The wedding we want to do next year, she don't have any relative in Australia
because she is Vietnamese and in Sydney just for her study's.So we want to save money and organize everything in Vietnam next year.

The question i have its:
1.Should we do the wedding before apply?
2.Since we meet online its hard to prove our relation(we chat and call with 'Viber' free chat and call program)I saved lot of chat log but we dont have many phone bills etc..
Those chat history will count as proves?
3.Any advice from peoples that was in same situation(meet someone online)What should we do as the best and fastest way?

Thanks

1. Yes, get married before you apply and get the marriage certificate. This is required.
2. My husband and I met online, we included photos of each other with things we bought for each other, photos of when he came to visit, phone bills showing I called him, and some facebook walls/messages along with myspace messages. Plus we had plane tickets/itineraries and some skype conversations. We also had my mom and our Pastor write a letter talking about our relationship and how they knew us. So yes, it counts.
3. Get married, get EVERYTHING together. The police check should be the last thing you get, as it must be sent off within three weeks of the date on the check. Get the medicals done, get the paperwork together, make sure you have everything so that all you have to do after you get the marriage certificate and the police check, is send it off :)

Hi there. My husband and I also met online.

You can get married without having a wedding. My husband and I had a civil ceremony with a few friends in Calgary. We will have our official wedding later, when we have saved up more money (and my family has time to apply for passports since my dad and one brother don't have them). However, we are legally husband and wife with a marriage certificate and photos to prove the marriage. When Immigration asks if there is anything else you wish to tell them about your relationship, explain your plans for a wedding in Vietname later and why. I think they would understand you want to have family around you.

We spent the first part of our relationship talking on Yahoo IM and Skype. Print off all your logs, even if they were voice chats the logs will show you talked for x hours, x minutes, etc. You should have proof of the visits too, including plane tickets, baggage tickets from your suitcase, receipt for the plane ticket or itinerary from the travel website if you purchased online (if you don't have this, get it soon as they expired after six months), if you stayed in a hotel, a receipt from there too. Once you begin to look, you will have lots of items to turn in. Make sure to include any pictures you have with you, her, and other family or close friends. It's great if you have pictures with you two and parents, but if you don't, that's okay too. My husband and I have very few pictures because we aren't into cameras or taking pictures- and none with my family.

Have you read the Immigration Guides 3900 and 3999? They can offer some tips if you're having trouble with IMM 5490. Other than that, just do your best. Immigration Canada is very aware a lot of people meet online these days, so don't let that bother you.

When is your wife due to graduate from her studies? Her training in Australia will definitely be beneficial to her immigration, as with a bachelor degree or better, she could qualify to immigrate on her own - this should help convince CIC the relationship is real.

I was quoted $2500CAD for an inland application. That seems cheap to me, so I'm betting they won't have an actual lawyer help me, but a paralegal or consultant. I'm also American, that probably made the price a little cheaper. As the guy said, it's easier to do an American's application.
