Hi everyone,
I got my ITA a few weeks back and am in the process of collecting the documents I need. There is a discrepancy in my parents' names that has me a little worried.
Basically, my parents' surname has been missing in almost all of my documents. It went missing in my 10th std marks card and since that was the proof given for almost every identity document I have subsequently gotten, it is missing in almost all of them including my passport. I had to get my address changed in my passport last year and tried to get this problem corrected at that time by producing my parents' identity documents but the passport officer simply did not agree to update it in my passport. Also since this issue is pretty much consistent in all my documents and had not caused me any problems before, I did not think it would be a that big a deal.
Now while I'm filling my profile on the immigration website, it's not allowing me to proceed without entering my parents' last names. I am in a dilemma as to whether to include their surname or not. I can provide their identity documents as supporting documents if needed. Will I need to get to get some kind of an affidavit ready to sort this out? Can I get this done with any authorized notary here in India? Also both my parents' first names have 2 parts, one of them being the name of our ancestral place. Can I use that as the surname on my application? I know this is a problem almost no one would have encountered, but could anyone with previous experience in name corrections help me out? I would greatly appreciate any sort of help/advice.
