I am applying for permanent residence my husband who is a USA resident outland He was presently on a 6 month visit. What is the best way for him to be in Canada till his application is processed. He has to go back tomorrow. Should he ask for a open work permit at the border He lives in Grand Forks ND and I live in Winnipeg. I am a Canadian Citizen We applied in Oct/17 Doing the waiting game now.
Need info on open work permit.

If he applied for outland spousal sponsorship he doesn't qualify for an owp. He would have to come back as a visitor. You should have applied for an extension if he didn't have to go to the US. He may encounter some pushback if he tries returning for another 6 months right after leaving. but you can try. Always best to apply while in the country to extend rather than leaving the country and trying to enter again.
