hi! Arrived here in Canada august 2016 as a live-in caregiver but quit my employers after 5 months. I have new prospective employers and currently waiting for lmia being processed. I have a canadian boyfriend and we've been together for 10months this months. We have a genuine relationship and he already proposed. He wants us to get married as soon as possible but it's me whose undecided with the following concerns in mind: is it ok for us to get married in the status that I am in now(still waiting to apply for a new work permit)? If we get married before I get a new work permit, will it have a negative effect when I / we apply for permanent residence later whether through the LCP or sponsorship?

Yes, you can get married now. It doesn't matter what your status is.

What do you mean stay married? I hope that was just bad english.
You have to be able to prove you have a genuine relationship. So apply after some time has gone by. You need photos, joint accounts, leases. If you apply too early and have no proof you could be refused.
Are you living together for those 10is.

We do have a genuine relationship. You're right I would have to rephrase my question. I meant to ask that after getting married,how long do we have to wait before we could start the sponsorship application?
About living together, well in the first five months that I've been working as a live-in nanny, I stay at his place on weekends and almost all my weekdays. Now, that I'm still waiting for my new employers to process their LMIA before I could apply for a new work permit, we are living together. We have photos, met most of his family, he named me a beneficiary in his insurance policy...I'm sure we'll be able to present more proofs when the right time comes.

Sounds like your on the right track. Gather more and maybe a few months after a wedding that involves members of both families than you should be ok.

You do not have to wait after you get married. You can apply as soon as you have all the documents you need. If you feel that you don't have enough proof that your relationship is genuine, then waiting a while to get more evidence is fine.
