Salam ,
I'm from Pakistan and I just want to ask some questions.
My Father recently received Canadian Immigration and he went to Canada 10 days ago, he's currently living there with his sister's family who are already Canadian citizens. He is soon going to be applying for Permanent Resident Card. Now what I want to know is that after receiving his PR card can he sponsor me , my brother and my mother (who is a housewife) or is there any sort of time limit or restrictions ? Me and my mother consulted a Immigration Consultant and he told us that My father has to stay there for at least 3 years before he can sponsor us. Is there any way he can sponsor us sooner ??????????

On other question ( I know this is not the section to post this but I thought It would be more appropriate to ask this over here)
I want to know that If I get admission in a Canadian University in the same city in which my Father or his sister's family live and work, will they give me preference or points on this , if I apply on Study visa ? because I remember my father got points because his sister's family lived there.

THANKS IN ADVANCE !!!

Did your father include you, your brother and your mother in his PR application? Were all of you medically examined?

My father applied for immigration as a skilled worker for permanent residence. We were all medically examined here in Pakistan, but since my Father was the one applying only he was issued a visa on his passport. Now he is currently in Canada and he has applied for PR card for himself.

OK - good to hear that all of you were included in his application.

Your father can sponsor you now (assuming you and your brother meet the dependent critieria) - he definitely does not need to wait. The consultant who told you that he must wait three years had no idea what he is talking about. Please don't use him to submit your applications.

No - you will not get additional points if you are admitted to a Canadian university. No points are assigned as part of the family sponsorship process.

Points related to the skilled worker immigration programs (not family class). They are earned in many different ways (education, experience, language, adaptability, job offer, etc.).

No - your study visa will not be given a preference. If anything, the fact your father is a PR might work against you. One of the criteria for being approved for a study visa is that you have strong ties to your home country and no plans to remain in Canada long term. If your father is already a PR, there's a chance CIC could refused your application due to lack of ties.
