Hi All,

I am applying for PR this year. I need assistance with regards to NOC code.
Currently my job profile of data and marketing analytics and forecasting of pharmaceutical products (6 years of work ex) puts me in NOC 4162 (Economists and economic policy researchers and analysts) matching 50-55% duties and 4163 (Business development officers and marketing researchers and consultants) matching 60-65% of my duties.
My concern is with respect to matching employment requirements of these codes. I am B. Tech in Biotechnology and Masters in Biochemical Engineering which is different to what has been mentioned in NOCs
NOC 4162 requirements are:A master's degree in economics or in a related discipline such as business administration or statistics is usually required.
A doctorate in economics may be required.
NOC 4163 requirements are:A bachelor's degree in economics, commerce, business administration or public administration is required.
Certification as a certified economic developer (Ec.D.) may be required.

HRSDC confirmed 4163 but they didnt respond regarding my degree match with employment requirements.

Can anyone assist me as to which code should i use? Or do I need to look for another NOC code because of my degrees

Employment requirements don't matter as a part of your PR application. Only requirement is that your job responsibilities must closely match most of the main duties of your chosen NOC.

Hi Asivad, the NOC job description also mentions the kind of education credentials they expect the candidate to have. if the candidate shows matching job responsibilities in the reference letter but his education credentials are way off, would it still work? thanks in advance!

Yes. The only criteria is that main duties of the chosen NOC must closely match the job responsibilities.

Generally, yes, with a couple of exceptions.

1) If you work in a regulated occupation and want credit for Canadian experience , you have to match the licensing requirements (this does not apply to foreign experience).

2) it also depends on the occupation - it has to make a little bit of sense. For example, it makes sense that a person with a biochem degree could do market research on pharmaceuticals. But it does NOT make sense that a person with a marketing degree could do biochemical research. You couldn't claim to be an engineer if your degree was in anthropology, but you could claim to be a cook, etc.

Based on the info provided, I would agree that 4163 is probably the best NOC, and you don't need to worry about the employment requirements.

Go with the one with the least margin of error.
Just in case your profile gets in the hand of those strict VOs.
