Hi folks,

My name is Jonathan. I'm an American that married a Canadian in 2013. I'm just gonna lay this all out on the table so bear with me.

In Dec. 2013, we sent in my permanent residence application.
If I am not mistaken, I believe it was under the "Family Class Sponsorship for permanent resident IN CANADA" because during that time I was living in Canada and working under a temporary foreign work permit. In January, we received a letter in the mail stating that they received my application on Dec. 9th 2013 and began processing it on Jan. 13, 2014.

I went to great lengths to send in a complete application which included an FBI criminal check, my medical exam which I obtained through the physician they recommend on the CIC website for New Brunswick and I paid all of my fees upfront.

Now my question is this:
Is there anyone in this forum with a similar story that had success in less time than the time frame the CIC website?

And if you don't have a similar story...is there anybody out there with any encouragement for us? I have been in Canada under a visitor's visa since last March and not able to work, nor find another employer willing to undergo a temporary foreign worker's permit since then.

Hi Jonathan,
unfortunately the inland timelines are currently brutal (~2 years). But stage 1 (AIP) takes about a year and one you get past stage 1, you can work. So unless timelines have changed, you should be seeing stage 1 approval very soon.

You can submit an application for an Open Work Permit under the new pilot program, so at least you would have the ability to work.

Thanks folks.

I still have my fingers crossed. Whether you believe in this kind of thing or not, I'm praying for this daily!

Thanks again.

Take advantage of the new OWP pilot program. As long as you currently have a valid status and had a valid status when you filed your application you are eligible for an open work permit which will allow you to find a job anywhere.

Good luck.
