Hello,

Sorry if my questions are between PR and Citizenship topics. I would like to get a Canadian citizenship as quick as possible. Due to my husband's job and unpredictable schedule in any location, I am afraid that he will probably be relocated anywhere out of Canada. If I have not possessed being a Canadian citizenship yet by that time, but still hold PR status. I understand that spouse can accompany Canadians living outside abroad. What about living physically 2 out of 5 years to maintain PR status? What if I have to accompany him and I will not be able to live physically in Canada for 2 out of 5 years. How can I prove the CIC in order to maintain my PR status?

In the case of applying for citizenship later, immigrants should earn residency physically for 3 out of 4 years in order to apply for Canadian citizenship. When accompanying my husband outside Canada, that means I will not probably earn residency physically for 3 out of 4 years but accompanying my husband outside Canada, can I still be eligible to apply for Canadian citizenship at that time?

I appreciate your help

I appreciate your help

1. Assuming your spouse is a Canadian citizen, as a PR you can accompanying him abroad and retain your PR status, without residing in Canada for 2/5 years. To prove it, show your spouse as a citizen, and proof that you resided overseas together.
2. Citizenship requires physical residence. So accompanying a spouse abroad the days don't count, only if he was employed by the Military, or Government of Canada or a Province. So you require 3 years physical residence in the 4 years prior to the application.

Thank you, PMM. My husband is a Canadian born but has been hired since working in Canada. His company is worldwide and require him to move from locations to others in different countries, so I am unsure if he is counted as working for the province? Please advise

He would have to be working for the Canadian government or provincial government for it to count. It doesn't sound like he works for the government - so your time spent with him outside of Canada will not count towards citizenship.

Thank you, scylla.
