I am a grad school student outside Asia and I am trying to get a job in the IT industry in Canada. My potential employer asked if I have one year experience in the IT industry and it seems that she is considering the Express Entry.

However, I have difficulty collecting proofs of experiences that add up to one year. Here are my previous experiences. Please advise what I can do with them.

  • I have 3 months of experience working as a developer that I may be able to get a reference letter from my previous employer.
  • I have 4 months of experience working as a freelance developer but the company is gone and it seems to be hard to get a reference letter for this one.
  • I have 6 months of experience working as a research internship in another grad school. I am not sure if this counts.
  • I have several years in the grad school as a full-time student also in the IT field. Also not sure if this counts.

If it turns out that my previous experiences really cannot add up to one year, please advise what will be the alternative visa options for me. Thank you.

Hi

For all your experiences, do you have your salary slips ? You could get an experience letter from one of your senior, at least an attestation describing your duties, responsabilities etc ....

Re immigration program, there are plenty of them - depending which province you are targeting in Canada. FWS is one, you might want to try the provincial nomination programs too

For the first two, I don't have.

For the last two, I have and I can ask my advisors to write me experience letters. However, I am not sure if experiences in the grad school count and I do not want to reveal my current salary to my potential employer as I have yet to receive an official offer from the company.
