They both refer to public events where you stood up, probably in front of friends and family, and professed your love for each other, and intention to stay together.

Like a marriage, but without the legal bit.

Agree with above, except commitment and partnership ceremony are usually words used to describe a same-sex relationship ceremony. Not exclusively, but generally.
