Hello

Our daughter Dana-Fabienne (Otto) is planning to visit Nova Scotia in August
this year. She likes to stay there for around 10 months. It is very
difficult for me here in Germany to get any further informations about
necessary requirements for Dana's stay in Canada. For that reason I am getting in touch with you and
like to kindly ask you, if you can sort out my issues directly in Canada.
I 'd like to know, if Dana-Fabienne needs to show a confirmed return
flightticket to Germany upon arrival. Instead, is it sufficient to present
a proven bank confirmation, showing we are able to pay for her
returnticket?
We consider the organisation's offer of a stopover flight as too expensive,
a one way ticket in combination of a later purchase for the returnticket
looks much cheaper to us.

Best regards

what exactly is she going to be doing in Canada for 10 months, studying/ attending school ? Assume if so she has a study permit ? http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/study/study-arriving.asp

A stay of 10 months would be on the edge as far as being able to puchase a return ticket anyway as most airlines do not take return bookings where the return is more than 10 months in advance of the date the booking is made , so not the travel out date.

You do not need any return ticket. A proven back confirmation or financial record is more than enough.

Does she already have an approved study visa or is she simply coming as a visitor? If she is coming as a visitor, you should be aware of the following:

- She may be denied boarding by the airline if she doesn't have a return ticket.
- She may run into issues at immigration entering Canada if she doesn't have a return ticket.
- 10 months is a very long stay in Canada for a visitor (visitors are allowed in for 6 months maximum) and CBSA may be concerned that she is attempting to live in Canada without authorization which could result in her being sent home.
- It's always possible that CBSA could only allow her into Canada for a few weeks and then tell her she has to return home.
- If she is coming for 6 months, she should make sure she can demonstrate that she has the funds to support herself during her stay or that a family member will be supporting her.
- She will not qualify for health care coverage as a visitor. You will need to purchase insurance in advance to pay for any medical emergency. For non emergency medical care (regular doctor visit), you will need to pay for the costs yourself.
- She cannot attend school while in Canada as a visitor. To attend school she will need to obtain a study permit and most likely pay around $14K in annual tuition to attend a public high school.

@scylla
I hope, you understand my English. She goes to Canada with a visa, not like a tourist. We get the documents for visa from the exchange organization in the next week's.
