Hello people of canadavisa.com.. hope you guys can help us out. I have an American girlfriend and we are very serious about each other. We want to get married soon and are hoping that we can minimize spending time apart after marriage, if not altogether avoid it.

What is the fastest way for us to go about this? Should I apply to live in the US? Or for her to apply to live in Canada?

We expect that for either choice, the person applying will not be able to work for a period of time and that is not that big of an issue right now. Are there steps that we can be taking right now to expedite the process of being together after our wedding?

Thanks for everyone's help in advance :)

there is no fast route to permanent residency in canada. the best option is to get married, and sponsor her under spousal family class as an OUTLAND applicant. Do NOT apply inland, as there is no benefit to a us citizen to do so. She will be able to enter as a visitor and extend her visit for the length of the application process, essentially staying in canada the whole time. Currently, US citizens are looking at an 8-10 month processing time, sometimes 12 months.

it's important she does not "give up" her life in the us when she does this. She must maintain proof of ties to the us (income or paying for housing) to avoid issues at the border. Just having family and belongings in the us doesn't qualify for having "strong ties" in the eyes of the canadian border agents.

i haven no input about the differences in the us to canadian processes, though i assume with the 90 day fiance visa in the us, it's quicker to start a life together there.

Thanks for the reply. Really appreciate it.

How does one give proof of income if they are essentially going to stay in Canada during the whole process? She will probably have to quit her job if she is to stay here for a while.

And yes the fiance visa is an option that we were looking into as well. Just wanted to ask around the forums for other suggestions.

proof of income for what? to enter as a visitor? it's good to have a job when you enter to visit, if not then you need to make sure you have other strong ties to show them if they ask. for the application? applicants don't need to have proof of income to apply for PR.

please refrain from having your GF ask the same questions in the forum under a different thread. Obviously, it's ok to ask different questions, it's just many people are going to start getting annoyed if you both continuously ask the same questions at the same time.

Considering you are Canadian, I don't think you needs a fiance visa. You can just come visit her and get married and then apply for a Green Card... or am I missing something? I thought a fiance visa was only for people who couldn't get into the States without a visa in the first place.
