Need advice with spousal sponsorship

Thanks for taking the time to read this, hopefully someone can give me some insight. My boyfriend is a citizen of Canada and I plan on immigrating. I wanted to see if it would be possible to stay on a vistor visa for 6 months and then get a work visa? I've been researching possibilities, I would like to be with him now so we can have lived together for a year (next year) so we can apply for the sponsual sponsorship by common-law partners. If anyone has advice or something that can help me understand more I'd be grateful.

Are you from a visa exempt Country? If you are not, it will be almost impossible to get a visitors visa in Canada if you're not from a visa exempt Country, many have tried and were denied. By the sounds of it I think you are from the Philippines? Your Canadian boyfriend would have to go see you in your own Country and live for 12 months straight together and apply common-law PR or think about getting married in your Country and apply spousal. You will need a lot of proof, so save everything, all your chats, pictures etc.....

You can enter as a visitor. As long as you only have a few bags like a normal visitor, sufficient proof of funds and don't tell CBSA you are trying to move to Canada, you should be fine. You won't qualify for a work permit. You will need to extend your visitor status to be able to live together for a year. Once common-law, you can apply inland with an OWP, which takes about 2-4 months after submission.

I wish I could do that but unfortunately I don't have sufficient funds to do that. That's why I was looking to get a job after the 6 months. I also needed to know if anyone knew how long it takes a get the work visa? I have a job offer but it hasnt been set in stone yet. I was going to start work in spring next year. I might just have to wait and just get a job offer but I wanted to see if I could go there as a vistor while waiting for my work visa.

You can't just get a work permit. Unless you qualify under NAFTA, an employer needs an LMIA to hire you. The LMIA process has strict requirements, takes months to process and costs the employer $1000, so unless you are specialized, chances are very low.
