I asked this question a few months ago, but I want to ask it again now that I'm almost ready to send the application to sponsor my husband.

In the Application to Sponsor IMM1344, it asks for the sponsor's name (last, first) exactly as shown in the passport. Then in the guide for further instructions it says, "Don't use initials". Here is where the problem lies: My middle name in my passport is written just as the initial! So they say, don't use initials..... I decided to write out my full middle name, even though it's written as an initial in my passport.

For example, in my passport is written as: Smith, Mary L. (not my actual name, btw...)

On the application I wrote it as: Smith, Mary Lisa

I then added a sheet of paper at the end of the form and explained why I wrote it like that, and also said that I was going to add a copy of my birth certificate so they can see my complete middle name.

This form is barcoded, so that makes me feel a little worried that they'll send back my application and ask me to redo the form with the initial (because that's how it's written in the passport). Both of the pieces of information they give for this question contradict themselves in my case, so I just want to be sure what I'm doing is correct. Again, I am the sponsor, so hopefully it's not quite as big of a deal as it would be for the applicant.... Also, don't know if this matters, but on our marriage certificate it only says my last name and first name... there's no mention of my middle name or middle initial.... ex: Smith, Mary for the marriage certificate.... will this cause issues too??I intend to send a copy of my passport as well as my birth certificate to stem any confusion...

Thanks for your opinions.

You could have done it either way. You will be fine, they won't send it back over that. If they ask why later, simply explain.

Thanks truesmile. You have put my mind a little at ease. I'm so nervous about the process and as the time draws nearer to sending the application, I feel more anxious about everything, hoping that it's all done correctly and that we submit enough evidence.

Hopefully my explanation regarding this matter is enough.

Hi Smith, Mary L. (which btw, is not your actual name) :)

In addition to what truesmile mentioned, CIC issues the visa in the name which appears exactly on the passport. Hence they insist on the name on the application to be the same as that on the ppt. Since your concern is with regards to sponsor and not the one being sponsored, you need not worry too much about it.
