Hello everyone,

Happy new year to all of you.

I am a german citizen currently residing in Canada. I got married to a Canadian a few days ago and we want to apply for my PR.
I found out that I have to use the "application for PR from within Canada - Spouse in Canada class (IMM 5289)".

Both of us want to change our names to a combined last name and I am wondering if this will cause problems if I apply within the next days with my "old" name and in between have my last name changed (once the marriage certificate is done)? Should I wait with the application or should I wait with the name change until my PR is approved or does all of this not matter at all?

Thank you very much in advance for your help.

I would wait until the end of the process to change things rather than go through the hassle of dealing with CIC about it. You can get your PR card then apply for the name change. It's just easier. Remember though not to change other official documents (eg passport) either because you'll need that to land and get your PR card.
