Hello everyone.

I have a few questions about the nafta visa that I'm hoping someone can help me with.

I am an accountant

Am I allowed to enter as a visitor and look for work/ interview?

How do I physically apply for the visa? Is it at the POE? Do
I fill out an application before hand? What do I do at the POe? Do I straight up tell them I'm here for a nafta visa? I'm not trying to get barred.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.
Ps, forgive any lack of grammar- im on an iPhone.

Bump :)

Also, I am a US citizen with a Bachelors in accounting

forgot to mention that in the first place.

So based on the reading, i feel confident i qualify for the TN status, i just dont know how to go about applying for work, as well as what to do at the POE.

thanks

1. You can enter as a visitor and look for work, but you can't get a work permit until you have a job offer in one of the NAFTA categories. Then you apply at either a Border Office or a Canadian office in the US for a work permit.

Thank you for your reply, I appreciate your time. Am I allowed to bring my car with me? The car is financed, since the work in Canada is temporary I am unsure how if i want to go onto PR status afterward; the whole point of going is my girlfriend is in Canada for school. So my question is as follows

Do I have to register my car in Ontario?
Does it technically count as importing if it is "temporary"?
Does the finance company have to approve the car being taken to Canada?

Do I get an SIN and can I open bank accounts?

so much to learn ;/

Im thinking about hiring a law firm in Windsor to help prepare my job offer letter as well as other legal advice, would that be worthwhile?

thank you in advance for your help

As far as importing the car you would need permission from the finance company to do so. It is very unlikely they will allow you. I just paid off my car so I can import it later on.

1. The car would not have to be imported, unless the work permit is for more than 3 years. You would get a temporary import certificate.
2. You need a job, before you get a SIN. You only need a SIN to open interest paying accounts.
3. Check with your finance company.
4. It is the employer that prepares the job offer, they can hire a lawyer if they wish.
