hi

i have applied for FSW category and will soon get PR. i need to know that once i reach canada:
1. after how much time can i sponsor my parents?
2. can i sponsor my sister (25 years old, unmarried)?
3. how much processing time will it require?

waiting for as usual cooperation.

regards

1. You can sponsor them after you meet the income requirements.
2. No, unless she is either your only living relative, or you live in a province that has a provincial program for siblings. The three major provinces (BC, Ontario and Quebec) do not have this, as far as I know.
3. The current processing times are available at www.cic.gc.ca .

You can sponsor your sister if you are going to Alberta. Alberta has family stream. But the candidate (the person being sponsored) must also qualify.

thanks alot guyz. but i have one more query. when i was reading the payment fees on CIC website (http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/immigrate/sponsor/relatives-apply-how.asp#step4), it said

* $475 for the principal applicant
* $550 for a dependant of the principal applicant who is 22 or older, or who is under 22 and married or in a common-law relationship

so by this means, if my 25 years old sister is unmarried, wouldnot she be the dependent of principal applicant, which in my case will be my father?

regards

No, not unless she has been attending school full time since before she turned 22.

PMM

sorry PMM, didnt get your point. can you please elaborate? attending school where? in quebec?

For someone over 22 to still be considered a dependent they have to have been a full-time student without interruption since before turning 22. If they was a break of full-time student status for even one term they are no longer considered dependents.

ok, now got it. my sister was a student in university when she turned 22. but currently, at 25 she is a working woman. is she eligible?

No, I'm afraid that as she is out of school now, she is no longer considered a dependent. She would have to have been a full-time student continuously from age 22 until she received her PR to qualify.
