Hi folks,

I’m kind of in a dilemma here, I currently work at a place where my job has duties listed in multiple NOCs, but they all are very similar to each other.

For example, I do work listed in both NOC 2171 and NOC 2274. I even do a few duties listed in 2283. All these are similar NOCs for folks who work in Software Dev firms. All of these NOCs also falls under the eligible skill category - the former two are A class and the latter is B.

My job title, college diploma field, and department at work fits NOC 2174. So, that’s what I’m planning to choose. I contacted HRSDC Canada with my job duties, and unfortunately they haven’t responded yet.

I did a 2 year collage diploma in “Computer Programming” if that is relèvent. My GPA is petty good, just in case that is relèvent.

But, I’ve heard stories stories of IRCC rejecting applications if they think work experience fits another NOC, so I just want to make sure that I choose the correct one before I submit my application.

So, what’s the best plan of action here? Ask a lawyer to review the work experience letter and give an NOC? Or is there a way to contact IRCC directly and ask them if NOC for my job duties is correct before submitting the application.

I’d really appreciate if someone can shed some light on this, or if any of you have had similar experiences.

Thank you, have a good day, and stay safe!

Your best bet is to have your employer or former employer write the letter so that it matches the most appropriate NOC.

It's is not uncommon to have you prepare your own letter and have your company then print a d sign it for you. Else, if they have a pre-formatted letter and are not willing to modify the duties described, it's a judgment call for you to decide which NOC matches those duties best.

There is a big issue with these NOCs and that is that in many cases duties in real life positions don't really match any NOC, or they partially match multiple NOCs.
