Hi, Our PR cards are valid until August 2025, and we plan to move to Canada by the end of next month, August 2024. We are currently in the US and intend to travel by road to Toronto. Could someone please assist us with these questions?.
1. My 3-year-old is a US citizen. Can she accompany us without a visa? (I read that US citizens can travel to Canada for up to 180 days without a visa.) Can we then apply for her PR in Canada, or should we start her PR process immediately?
2. Since we only have 1 year left on our PR cards, will we face any issues at the border crossing? Is it a good idea to bring some of my household items with me in this situation? If you have any suggestions, please provide them.

1. She can enter the US based on her US passport.
2. Do you meet the residency obligation?

we only went for one month for our pr cards in 2020

This means you are in breach of the residency obligation. What are your reasons for not moving to Canada sooner? You are potentially at risk of the process being started to revoke your PR when you enter Canada.

It could also mean that you might face great difficulty when applying for PR for your child. I am less familiar with how this process works for a dependent child, but for adult sponsorships you typically need to meet the residency obligation before you can sponsor. Will let others comment on this aspect.
