For multiple entry visa...one is suppose to leave Canada on the date mention on their passport and re enter of they wish after.
My question is...do they have to return to their country of origin or it can be any country as long as they are no longer in the territory of Canada?

You can leave Canada to any other country you're allowed to. But if you keep re-entering Canada, CBSA might think you're working on visitor visa and order you to leave the Country.

Absolutely. We’ve seen parents do a cross border run to “renew” their visa in Canada find themselves refused entry at the border.

If the senior citizen is on "super visa", he/she can stay for up to 5 years at a time in Canada. So there's no need to cross border every 6 months.
