Hello,

I have been browsing these topics for over an hour and I'm still not sure if I have the right answer since I feel like my case is slightly different than what I have read on the forum.

So I came to Canada on a Multiple entry study permit. I have applied for a post graduate work permit which I have received and it expires in March of 2015. It is an open work permit and it does not specify anything about re-entry to Canada other than the 'This document does not authorize re-entry'. I have recently won 2 trips through my work, one of them is to the US and the other one is Domenican Republic. My question is, would I be able to re-enter Canada? The reason I'm confused is that the only document that specifies that I'm allowed Multiple entries, is my study permit which is expired. My current legal document is my work permit which doesn't mention anything in this matter.

Assuming you hold a non-visa exempt passport, then you will need a TRV (temporary resident visa) to re-enter Canada. You should apply for a multiple-entry TRV.

Thanks for the quick response. My trips are in less than 3 weeks. Would I be able to get that TRV in time? Where do I apply?

Application information is here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/visit/index.asp

Processing times are here:

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/times/

I don't think you're going to be approved in time. But by all means try.

Actually, you might have time if the 10 day processing time applies to you.

Make sure you submit an online application (not mail in). Online applications are processed faster.

As far as I know...there is no Multiple entry study permit. I came to Canada on Study permit and it says it does not authorize re-entry. Visa and Study/work permit are two different things.
You probably had a study permit and multiple entry visa stamped on your passport, If not then you may be from visa-exempt country. The same applies for work permit holders - no exceptions.

What is your nationality?

Scylla you are right about TRV.

I just want to add that although it says 10 days...it can take upto 3 weeks for you to receive your passport back from Ottawa after stamping. In your case if applicable you do not have sufficient time.
You can still make your USA trip - you do not require a Visa to re-enter if you have only visited USA as part of your trip. You just need to show the work permit.

My nationality is Romanian and you are right ... it is the Visa in my Passport that specifies the Multiple Entry thing. That visa is expired though.

You mentioned I could still make the trip to the US. I wouldn't need a TRV to return from there?

No you dont need a TRV if you have visited only US. You can return back showing your work permit. Canada allows visit to USA with valid work/study permit without using TRV for return.

You will however, not be able to travel to Dominican without TRV.

Hi,

I have completed a PDF form that I have downloaded from the CIC site and I have also Validated it but I haven't uploaded any scanned documents, not have I made any payments since I haven't been prompted. What is my next step?
