Hello all

I have just sent through my outland application to Mississauga. The plan was for my wife and kids who are citizens to go to Canada with there one way tickets and for me to go with them on a return ticket. I was planning on coming back to south Africa after a month and waiting for my application to be approved and then move to Canada to be with my wife my kids.

My wife now wants me to stay there with her and not come back to south Africa. how do I go about staying in canada? Do I do a change of address on the cic website? And what will happen with my sponsorship application? Will they still send it to south Africa for processing and request that my passport be sent to south Africa even though I will be in canada?

All you are allowed to do is visit Canada at this time - you cannot move until your PR application has been approved. I assume you already have a TRV - if not, you'll need to obtain one. You'll need a two way tickets.

You should let CIC know about your change in address - however the application will most likely still be processed through the VO responsible for SA and if an interview is required by any chance, it will be held in SA. You can arrange for visa stamping to happen in Canada.

I have a tourist visa only. Do I still need a TRV?

Does that mean I will have to leave canada at some point during the application and then return once the application is finalised?

You don't need to leave Canada as long as your visa is still valid (6 month normally). You can apply to extend it while waiting for immigration processing. If that is approved you will not need to leave unless you are called to SA for interview. Do not change your address with CIC, you would still be living in SA and visiting Canada until landing.
