Hello,

I am a US citizen and I currently live in Costa Rica and have permanent residency status there. I have been dating a Canadian girl for a over a year now traveling back and forth visiting and long distance dating. I am at the point where I want to move to Canada and be with her. What is the best option for me or at least the first step I should take towards being able to live in Canada. I am a graphic designer and I would preferable like to work for myself as a self employed person, but any option or idea you have would be welcome. :)

I am guessing that you have not been living with her while you were in Costa Rica. You will either need to qualify under one of the programs listed on the CIC website, or you can get married and she sponsors you to get PR in Canada.

If you are a US citizen you can get a temporary work permit via the NAFTA program if you are a graphic designer and have a job offer.
