We plan to move to Canada by July 1st, even earlier would be preferable - May or June.
Our application still hasn't been received yet.

My wife is only permitted to stay as a visitor in Canada for 6 months. With the 12-month waiting time, we would need more like 9 months.

Will she get kicked out of Canada from her family after 6 months, or is there any kind of visa or visitor extension she can apply for to ensure she can stay with us in Canada until the application is processed?

So you have sent your application into CPC Mississauga right (is it just that they haven't acknowledged it yet)?? If so, then unless there is something horribly wrong with your pack, you should easily be Sponsor Approved by May.

Note that the 6 month visitor visa is not guaranteed, it is at the discretion of the CBSA officer (although most seem to be happy granting 6 months).

You can apply for an extension closer to the end of the visitor visa if the CoPR has not come through by then. Of course while there as a visitor, the PA cannot work.

Thank you!! The application was sent Jan 7, we just haven't received the AOR1 yet, should be any day now.

No visitor visa is required from EU citizen for 6 months, so the CBSA officer doesn't need to issue anything at the border. We would just arrive in June, I would find a job, but she does not need to work yet, that's ok.

But do I understand correctly that as it gets close to 6 months and no decision has been received, can we then apply for a kind of visa to allow her to stay longer? This is the key question I need to know for sure: what kind of visa is this, and who can I apply with?

Note that you do need an ETA to come to Canada as a visitor. Passport alone isn't sufficient.

Oh yes, absolutely - you wont be allowed to board the plane without one.

VERY easy to take out on-line and only costs $CAD7
