I did plan on starting the studying process soon, should be a nice little blast from the past. I heard it was costly, we have a few therapists in our company who live in Windsor, ontario but work in Michigan and they mentioned how costly it was.

I don't understand I see that people who applied for Spousal outland Sponsorship are paying $1040 which doesn't make any sense because on the CIC website it says the fee is $550.

PR fees:

Sponsorship application $75
Principal applicant fee $475
Right of Permanent Residence Fee $490

Total $1040

You can choose to pay only the first 2 upfront and wait for CIC to request the RPRF. However, not paying the RPRF upfront will delay your app when CIC needs to request it and wait for the payment, so it's advised to pay the full amount upfront.
