Okay ive recently been given a 6 month visit record for canada, and im currently residing with my husband as we wait out the rest of my visa process. However. My uncle has just been given 5 days to live, when the inevitable happens i would like to be at the funeral to support the family (and to sya my own goodbyes). Where do i stand with my visit record? If i leave am i not gaurenteed re-entry? Would they understand? I'm not sure if i'm allowed to leave and come back on it or not etc, that obviously wasnt at the front of my mind when i was coming here!

All answers appreciated, obviously if i cannot make it then thats how things are but i'd like to know if i'm going to be able to make it...as would my family

Thank you for reading

Silver,
I have a visitor record and I have left and re-entered Canada many times since I was issued it.
Until you have PR or citizenship, there is never any guarantee that you'll be allowed to enter Canada. But, in my experience, the visitor record has no bearing on it. And conversely, leaving and re-entering has no bearing on the visitor record--you can leave and come back and keep the same document with the same expiry date, etc. Of course, your mileage may vary, and if you are in Canada on a visitor record and think there is a reason you might be denied re-entry if you leave, then the safest bet is to stay. But it is likely that whatever circumstances that made them think you were OK to let into Canada the first time (not a risk of overstaying, etc. etc.) will serve you well the next time and also if/when you need to file an extension for your visitor record. So I wouldn't sweat it too much. Sorry to hear about your uncle and best wishes to you and your family.
