Hi,

I am planning to immigrate to Canada, and would like to know if a monthly salary of 15000 before tax is sufficient for a family 3 and my wife is not working?

Regards

Regardless of where you end up settling in Canada, an annual income of $180,000 will allow you to live comfortably.

$15,000 (I'm assuming you didn't mean to say $150,000), is not a lot to live on for a family of 3. However, govt benefits can make it easier on you, but I don't know if thats something you want - some people prefer to tough it out, and not rely on assistance. If you are just landing, and its an offer you've got, take it, as you and your wife look around for better opportunities. That $15,000 plus the funds you'll be bringing with you, can sustain you for a year, at least, if managed well.

The OP clearly mentioned that the salary will be $15,000 per month (before tax). That's a very handsome salary for a family of 3.

If you live very frugally, live in a basement and shop from dollar store it might be enough.

will be able to buy a lot in dollar store on 15k per month or 180k a year. A salary most people would fight to get.

Hi, Again,

How much is the income tax in Canada?

It depends on the province which you last resides and your income level (15K v. 150K per month is a big difference). For a complete list, go to the CRA website.

My apologies to the OP, I sub-concisously assumed the figure to be per year. Thanks for the highlight.

@Johan, please ignore my response. It certainly does not apply to you. As all the other posters have mentioned, $15,000 PER MONTH, is comfort in the very sense of the word. Provided your a good money manager, of course. I don't know about Canada, but in the US, its easy to find people earning the same figure in USD living pay-check to pay-check, due to bad decisions, and blaming it on the govt. :D

All the best.
