I am not sure if this is the right place to post this.
My first name was misspelt in my visa and confirmation of permanent resident just received. Not sure how to go about correcting the error. Has anyone experienced this before and what they did to resolve the problem? Any advice please?

Contact the visa office. The docs you got with it will almost certainly say something like 'check this carefully and contact us if any errors.'

So do that.

Thanks very much. Yes, indeed that statement is in the CoPR but the problem is not knowing the exact details of the Ghana office of the Canadian Embassy to contact as it is not in the document. The office has so many numbers and email addresses. I wonder if anyone has experienced this with Visa issued from the Ghanian office?

You can also try through the VFS office you submitted through.

Do I need to complete the form IMM 1436 Request to Amend the Confirmation of Permanent Residence and the visa affixed to my passport at this stage?

Not sure I understand what instructions you are referring to. If you mean form IMM 1436, by my understanding, it says If there is an error on your immigration document you need to complete a Request to Amend Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent Residence or Valid Temporary Resident Documents form, and send to the Operations Support Centre in Ottawa, Ontario.

What I am not sure of is if the form is for after you have landed in Canada or can be while still outside Canada like my situation.

Not sure I understand what instructions you are referring to.

I meant the instructions you received in the package you got including the COPR and visa. Do those instructions tell you to fill out this form?

And the reason I ask is that my suspicion is the form you are referring to is, yes, intended for those that have already landed.

And the way to find out the next step is probably to follow the instructions you got in your package and NOT go out and search the web and see if there is a form that just might fit your case; there are certainly many forms that are not the correct one.

(Note if you are in USA and/or can get there and cross at land border, I'd have less concern that you'd have an issue. Bigger problem with the misspelling is likely ability to board a plane. If it's just an obvious and trivial typo, IRCC might tell you to go ahead and travel, again, IF the airline can be convinced.
