Hello,

My mother and little sister who is 15yrs old submitted their TRV application together two weeks ago. My mother received approval while my little sister was refused based on the following:

I am refusing your application on the following grounds:

• I am not satisfied that you have sufficient funds, including income or assets, to carry out your stated purpose in coming to Canada or to maintain yourself while in Canada and to effect your departure.

Both my mother and sister submitted a letter of financial support from my father who agreed to cover all of their expenses including ticket and medical. He provided his bank statement which was over $80K. My mother also included her bank statement which was over $15K. Not sure why they would refuse her based on that. It was only for a 3weeks vacation.

She also submitted one asset ( piece of land).

In addition, I have also mentioned in the invitation letter that I would bear all expenses for both of them.

Can any of you with a similar experience or who is more knowledgeable on the subject provide advise?

Please and thank you.

It's advisable to re-assess the application as a complete package vis-à-vis just the stated refusal reason.

1. What were the documents that your sister submitted?
2. Has she traveled to other visa-required countries (US, UK, EU, Australia, NZ, etc)?
3. Is she a student? If yes, when does the study program end?

Hi Bryanna,

Thanks for the prompt response.

Here are the answer to your questions:

We provided the following documents for my sister:
1. School letter confirming she is currently enrolled in grade 10.
2. Letter of support from my father with his bank statement

She only travelled within the continent of Africa (Sudan, Egypt & Cameroon).

Yes, she is a high school student. Her high school ends around end of May.

Thanks
Abe

Hi Bryanna,

I just found out that the reason for her refusal was due to the fact that we mentioned she will seek medical treatment while in Canada. I was told I shouldn't have mentioned that at all:(

She has been dealing with stomach bacteria and we wanted the opportunity for her to come with her mother so she can be seeing by a Canadian doctor. We understand the medical cost can be hefty if one doesn't have insurance coverage or OHIP. We explained to the officer that my father and I are both willing to bear all expenses related to her medical.

We didn't include any quote or medical cost breakdown with her application.

I would like to apply for her again but was told I need to provide a note from a doctor with an estimate of the total medical cost plus might have to increase my father's bank statement.

Not mentioning about seeking medical treatment would be misrepresentation for the purpose of visit.

To reapply, she must:
1. Reapply for a Medical TRV ('Details of the visit' section)

2. Prove that similar treatment is not available in her home country/countries close to where she resides + why she must visit Canada for the treatment

3. Include medical reports from her current doctor + test reports + detailed quote + letter from the Canadian hospital/doctor + Letters of Support from your dad and yourself + copies of passports of your dad and yourself + bank statements of your dad and yourself + your NOA/T4 + evidence she is a student and she has enrolled for the next academic year (not graduated from high school yet) + evidence that your mom must return to her home country by a specific date/week + insurance coverage (if possible, as a pre-existing medical condition) + prove the treatment can be completed in a finite, short course and does not require re-visits nor an extended/indeterminate stay
