Hi all,

I want to change the name that appears on the document slightly. The name I would like to have is aaa, bbbccc . that is last name, followed by one first name.however When my parents first applied for pr status in canada, they put aaa, bbb ccc on the applications. which makes it look like i have a middle name. while i never have a problem with this, i don't want this to appear on my citizenship certificate, as i will need that to apply for a passport. Is there a way to change this after i've submitted the appliacton for citizenship already? I indicated aaa, bbbccc on the appliaction, but based on my experience, they will still use aaa, bbb ccc which is the stored in their database.
My question is, what should I do in this case? Apply for a name chagne with the provincal goverment? and show them the document to get it changed? Or is there a simpler approach since this is not REAL name change..just format issues..

Thanks!!

I had the same problem like you. The only good way is to apply for a provincial name change. Get the provincial name change document and then do the name change in your driver's license and health health. Get all these 3 documents notarized and send a letter to CIC stating your name change.

I did the same and got my name changed in the citizenship application. Hope this helps.

Thanks so much NS_SJ!!

I am wondering though, when you applied for the Canadian passport, is it the case that as long as you put down your name in the format that you desired on the application, they will use that format. Or they somehow share the database with CIC, and grab the name from there? If that's not the case, then I wouldn't bother with this change...as long as the passport shows my name correctly, i am happy....

Thanks again!

As far as I know, they will put the name thats in the citizenship document and its always good to have your name changed now rather than latter. Its just my 2 cents.

is it possible to make s name change on the citizenship certificate?

Yes. You need to apply for that. You need to get a name change certificate from the provincial government, change all your names in your health card and driving licence and then send in the all the details to change your name in the citizenship certificate.
