Hi there, I'm new to this forum and just have a quick question. My husband and I have been married for a year (He's Canadian, I'm British), and we're planning on posting in application for permanent residency (inland) real soon.

We've heard that you don't need to have the Medical checks done before you send off your application, but on the checklist for the application, it says you need to provide proof of a medical check, or the application will be returned for being incomplete. So, which is the best way to do it?

Do we need to get my medical done before sending in the application or not? I really would like to know so that we have less chance of the application being returned for being incomplete.

Many thanks.

For a spousal sponsorship, you need to have the medical up front and include proof. You may have been reading about skilled worker applications. Those take longer, so they request the medical later, closer to when the processing is complete.

Also, unless you have a very good reason and understand why you're doing it, don't apply inland. It takes MUCH longer, and there is no right of appeal. Even if you're in Canada as a visitor or temporary worker / student, you can still apply through London. It's generally better to do so.

Hi , I too am from England and was sponsered inland , I was advised to send my medicals with the application which I did, However, medicals expire after 1 year, you have to re-do your medicals if your application has not been approved by this time , more people here will tell you the same ! Medicals are only part of the 2nd stage of you PR application and not the sponser application , there are 3 addmissable checks in the PR application...

1 Medical

2 RCMP

3 Security

Good Luck :)

I'm British and my husband is Canadian, and I had my medicals done prior to sending off the application, but I am applying outland as it's so much quicker, with 50% of all applications being completed in 3 months compared to so much longer inland.

I wish I had my PR out land !! been waiting 20 months inland :( sponsership inland is quick , its the 2nd stage that takes for ever :( my husband is Candian too :) I can't even leave to visit my family cos I may not get back into Canada :o I say do it out land .

Thank you for your responses guys.

Matthewc - we're applying inland, simply because we've spent so much time apart. We understand what that entails, such as me not being able to work, or get health care and all of that, but we're fine with that. My husband has a good job and is more than able to support me till our application is finalized. We figure its a small price to pay in order for us to be together.

eyeoftheocean - (love your username btw! :P) It seems crazy that for a spousal sponsorship that you need a medical to start with. They say that if you're married to a Canadian Citizen that they can't refuse you based on your medical. If that's the case, why bother with them at all? It seems like a cash cow!

MandiF - Do let me know how long it takes for you to get everything finalized and when you're 'landed'. It'll be interesting to note the time difference!

Wow...20 months!!!!!!

I am from the UK too, I applied Inland, in the common law class and my PR was completed in less than 8 months, I landed 20th May 2010.

Is there some complication with your application? I ask this, as CIC informed me that a smooth Inland application usually takes about 8 months to complete.

Here is another thread about the pro's and con's of inland and outland applications. http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/inland-vs-outland-t40460.0.html

Can a person applying inland apply for a temp work visa??

I am in the security stage ( final phase ) as I was a political figure in 2005 so CSIS are thoroughly checking me out
:P some cases are finalized in 8 months and others take a whole lot longer ! :-[

misplacedbrit thankyou for your comments , I love titanic movie and thought what better to have the jewel of the ocean as a username ! :)

Lol, I love Titanic too ... and though I'm not a fan of old Leonardo, I thought he was HOT in Titanic.

In terms of my application, there's SO much to remember to send in. How much did you pay for your medical??

I haven't had them done yet. Ooops ::)

However, the hubby is calling around different doctors to get quotes. Heck, we figured we'd go with the cheapest, cuz a check is a check right? Where in Canada are you? I'm on the West Coast in Vancouver :)

I'm sure that you probably already know this, but make sure that it is a Designated Medical Practitioner that is listed on the CIC website. http://www.cic.gc.ca/dmp-md/medical.aspx

eyeoftheocean - God I hope you're right! That would be a HUGE relief! We were envisioning like $200 - $300 lol. I hate that this whole process makes you so paranoid! We haven't sent off our application yet. We hope to get it done in the next two weeks!

ljane - Yeps, we know that. The husband printed it out and took a copy to work for the numbers of the doctors he's going to call.
