Medical Surveillance and Inactive TB.....Lets get connected

Hi,

I have got the notification of inactive TB along with my wife's immigration visa. I called up Toronto Public Health on +1 4163387600 asking about the procedure. Lady told me that once you land, you need to call nearest public health centre and nurse will ask you some basic questions of your health. Then Nurse will post you a letter within 30 days and you need to take that letter to any private practitioner on your own. The process may take 2-6 week.

Do I need to pay myself for the private practitioner visit in this regard? I heard medical is very costly overe there if I do not have health card?

It is essential to get health insurance to tide you over until your Provincial Health kicks in. I am not sure that health insurance would cover a pre-existing condition, so that is something you should check. I have not had experience with the surveillance programme and I wonder if this is something that could be handled by Public Health as I think TB treatment, etc is usually free of charge. It is so important to deal with TB, to take all the required medications and get followup checks done. For this reason, I don't think they charge. Perhaps there is a similar agreement with physicians, but I don't know.
