Hi All,

I know this question has been asked a couple times already, but I haven't been able to find a clear answer yet!

I've been checking out this table provided by the CIC website, which shows the application status and explanations -- sorry, for some reason it's not letting me post links, so just put the usual "http colon backslash backslash" in front of the site below:

services3.cic.gc.ca/ecas/redir.do?redir=app_perm_fam&lang=en&app=ecas

My Application Status has always shown only "Application Received", but now underneath it also shows "1. Medical Received"

According to the table, it seems that my status should be "Decision Made", but it still just says "App Received."
Has anyone had this experience? Does it mean that a decision has been made?

If so, my app seems to have moved very quickly! Just some background info on our timeline:
1. Mailed app from Auckland, NZ on January 14, 2014
2. Received by CIC on January 20 (courier confirmation)
3. CIC updated status to Application Received on February 19
4. Sponsor approved March 13
5. Medical Received status April 4

Does anyone know if this means a decision has been made? Any and all answers are very welcome!

They have been updating the Medical results status a few days after Sponsorship Approval now.

I received "medical received" update 3 months ago. No new update yet. Yes, I know that according to the table, it means our applications are in the "Decision Made" phase. It's true for many cases. However, there are exceptions. I know some people was requested an interview after having that update. So, it all depends.

Hi guys,

Thanks for your answers.

Has anyone else applied in 2014 and gotten this response yet? Not sure if it's true, but it seems the 2014 applicants are moving faster than 2013?

From looking through the Jan 2014 and Feb 2014 threads it seems like everyone is getting 'medical results received' after they get sponsorship approval, except for a random few. It's very typical to have it update to that after you get your Sponsorship Approval.

I'm a bit confused about your original question. Which status are you asking about when you say it should be showing 'decision made'? The sponsor, right? Because that one will say 'decision made' after you get your sponsorship approval. The status for the applicant should only say 'application received', even though it says 'medical results updated'. Your status for the applicant wont turn to 'in process' or 'decision made' until it is opened by someone and reviewed at your visa office. Depending on which one that it is, it could take a couple months.

He meant the principal applicant's (person being sponsored) application status. Because the sponsor doesn't need to medical exam, therefore "medical results" update wouldn't appear under Sponsor's status.

When you're on the screen where says "Application received" page, scroll down to the bottom. You'll see these 3 options.

"The following tables will help you understand the status of your application.
Application for Permanent Residence Outside Canada
Application for Permanent Residence in Canada
Application for Permanent Residence - Federal skilled Worker submitted to Sydney, Nova Scotia"

Click on the first one if you applied outside Canada. Then you'll see what he was talking about.

It's not normal to receive "Medical results have been received" update right after sponsor's approval. I got that update after 7 months since I filed the application.

No, I know he meant the medical results would appear under the applicants status, not the sponsor. BUT, from the people applying in the past couple months, they have been updating the medical results after Sponsorship Approval.

My question, is the OP seemed to be asking why the applicants status was still 'application received', not 'decision made'. But they just got sponsorship approval 2 weeks ago. So simply having updated medical results does not mean the application has been processed. Look through the Jan 2014 and Feb 2014 threads. 90% are getting medical results received updated quickly after SA. Yours wasn't, and a couple others aren't, that's why i said some and not all.

Maybe they have changed the rules and policies when process the applications this year. From my observation throughout this forum, the majority of 2013 applicants didn't get the medical update right after the sponsor approval. Maybe this is a good sign!

I think so. It appears that they're checking for the medical results during stage 1 sponsorship approval and updating it at that time, but who knows really.

Thanks for your answers - seems it's hard to know if the "Medical Received" update means much at all in terms of waiting time. It seems weird that my (the sponsored person) status would say "App Received" when, if I click on it, it shows "Medical Received." I guess they may have just gotten the med results and stuck it in my file, but no one has necessarily looked though anything yet so my status hasn't been updated to "In Process"?

Sill good I suppose...at least something is happening!

Also, I'm a she, not he :)

Haha, sorry! But yes - it appears that during the sponsorship approval part in Mississauga they check for medical results and update your file. Which visa office are you going through? Some visa offices will never update ECAS to 'in process', but will instead go straight to 'decision made', or your COPR in the mail. As well, once applications have been transferred to the visa office, they can sit there for months without getting opened and put into 'in process'

Although I think since you're from NZ your application will go to the Syndey VO? In that case you can hope for a speedy process :) Someone just finished their whole application in 92 days!

I'm from the U.S. but have lived in Auckland for 2 years with my spouse, which is where we mailed our app from.... too bad, I wish I could have applied through Sydney if it's that fast!

Thanks very much for all your answers. I'll just sit tight and see what happens next.

Ah well, I guess we have the same visa office then. I think we can expect to wait a while without hearing any news from them. My app has been at the Ottawa office for a month with no word. I have a link in my signature with the Ottawa visa office timeline, it might give you insight into the process and how long it takes! I don't think I'll be hearing anything from them for another 4 months or so.

Cool, that's helpful! How do we get our stats on the spreadsheets?

No worries! There's an official CPP-Ottawa thread on here as well with a spreadsheet but I made my own to update (I find it makes the time pass faster for me, haha). I can add your info to it!
