After much searching through the threads I still haven't gotten a clear response to the following question.

Background: => I am a Canadian, born in Canada with PR status in the United States
=> My wife is an American citizen by birth.
=> Our 2 daughers (20 months old and 3 weeks old) were born in the United States.
=> we are moving back to Canada as I have a job starting in June.

Question: 1. Do my daughters have to undergo the medical exam? (I have not applied for their Citizenship certificates yet and had not
planned to until we moved back to Canada.)
2. Is my birth certificate and their birth certificate suffient to prove their Canadian citizenship elligability?
3. If exams are required for the kids, does the 3 week old have to have a US passport for the exam? (we will have one before we leave but
need to get exam done to file Sponsorship for my wife right away.)

Thanks for any answers

Marc

you don't need to sponsor your children, they are canadian by descent... so they should be on the application, but not in the applicants section, therefore no medical... your wife will be the only one that needs the medical

the process to get their canadian citizenship cards is best started once you've brought them over to canada... takes about a year, but is really just a technicality...

btw that'll probably make more sense once you get into the application :)

Thanks Chelley

This site has been very helpful for much of the process. The forms seemed to be designed for "inland" so us "outlanders" have to decipher some of the content. The medical has been our biggest dilema. The medical office where my wife is to go doesn't seem to know anything except for the fees.

Your daughters need their Canadian citizenship certificates. You should apply ASAP.

As far as the medicals for your wife - what information are you trying to get from the DMP that they can't answer?

The DMP didn't seem to know what documents my daughters needed. Since they don't need medicals due to my being a Canadian then my question has been asnwered.

I am going to get Citizenship Certificates for my daughters but probably not until we get back to Canada. Our issue right now is that we are filing in a few weeks. Once my newborn has her US passport we are heading to Canada (the 20 month old has her passport). I have a job starting and need to be there soon. My wife and kids are coming as visitors and are allowed to wait out the process in Canada.

We would have had everything in place some time ago but my wife was pregnant and could not do the medical. So our timeline has become very short.

Yes the children will have to have medicals. I am the Canadian and my spouse American. My kids were born in the US. They were required to undergo a medical along with my spouse. Even though you are not sponsoring them they are required to have a medical.
