I am thinking to file super visa for my mother and I explored Medical Insurance for my mother (69 yrs age) for one year (365) days on Manulife site... premium is approx. 2500 - 2700 CAD (for 365 days)...

Am I missing key point or it is normal premium for such case(s)?

Please advise....

normal premium for old age parents.

There are other companies that can offer you lower prices. I looked up a quote for your mother's age and there are definitely cheaper options. Our company 'Arbetov Insurance' works with 6 different insurance companies (including manulife), which offer competitive prices. For a 69 year old visitors the lowest quote would be $1752 for the Super Visa insurance.
If you would like more information, please give us a call at our toll free number 1877-211-4301 or email us at arbetov.office@gmail.com

Keep in mind that the $1,752 price is for a $1,000 deductible which may be a bit of a stretch for the average person if you have a claim. You can also get coverage for as low as $2,339.65 with a $0 deductible, with other alternatives in between these two.

Look for yourself, compare and then select your best choice. The following link will give you free quotes from different insurers instantly (within seconds), I found it from GOOGLE and shared in past as well:

www.visitorsinsurance.ca

Once you try it, you'll know what others are offering you here. Good luck!

thanks u guys for ur suggestions...

I googled & found 'Travel Underwritter' and got 0 deductible for 2339 C$...

all docs are with my mom... waiting for Monday, & will apply in-person in Delhi (as consulate office is just 15 min. distance from residence)

I know this is a little too late to help, but it will demonstrate the value of looking around....

Here's what a 69 year old would pay at BestQuote Travel Insurance Agency's website: http://www.bestquotetravelinsurance.ca/canada-super-visa-insurance

The same $1752 with a $1000 deductible as posted above (same company too! - GMS), but for a $zero deductible policy covering stable pre-exisiting medical conditions it would be $2117.

That's a savings of $222, and the secondary benefits of the policy from BestQuote (underwritten by RSA) are very comparable to the one's offered by the Travel Underwriters Platinum policy.

It pays to look around. That's the premise of the BestQuote website - and they offer quality advice and customer service before and after buying the policy too! Check it out. Get a quote, and compare. Always use the broker that carries the widest possible set of choices.

Yes, the medical insurance criteria have already been set by CIC:

Proof that you have private medical insurance valid for a minimum of one year from a Canadian insurance company and that:
- Covers health care, hospitalization and repatriation;
- Provides a minimum coverage of $100,000; and
- is valid for each entry to Canada and available for review by a port of entry officer.

Any Canadian insurance company works in Ontario. You can go with Manulife, GMS, TIC and so on..if you need more information, you can contact Arbetov Insurance at 1-877-211-4301. We work with the majority of the companies in Canada.
Cheers

so lets say we want mail our super visa application on Sept 1st(looking at coming here in spring 2013), we have to start the "1 year" coverage from the mailing date or the anticipated arrival of the person we are sponsoring or the date we are mailing the application?

If we have to start the pay for a year of coverage starting the day of the application will the insurance company refund me the money since the applicant is not even in the country?

You would an approximate date for the policy for when you estimate they will arrive. The date can later be changed according to when they will come to Canada. For the Super Visa, you have to buy a one year policy before you apply so you have to pay in advance. If they will end up not coming to Canada, you can request a refund
