Good Day,
I want to sponsor my mother to come to Canada either as a PR or Visitor, however, am concerned about the medical. Does anyone know of reasons why they would refuse a visa/PR based on medical reasons? My mother is overweight, has high blood pressure and is borderline diabetic. Would this cause any problems? She is coming from Jamaica if that would make a difference. Thanks.

These issues should not prevent someone for being medically approved. As a visitor you should be taking out travel medical insurance. That will cover emergencies. If she needs treatment for routine and preexisting conditions you would need to pay out of pocket. We have also seen cases where care goes above the travel insurance coverage limit and the family had to pay for the care. You will have to see if you qualify to apply for PGP2020 once it is announced. There is significant demand to sponsor parents for PR so qualifying can take many years.
