Medical expenses in Calgary, please clarify

I am moving to Calgary, Alberta after 3 months (hope so) and then I would be 7 months pregnant. I would have my PR for Canada by then.

1) Would I be covered for my delivery and other medical expenses in the first 2 months?
2) Do I need to inform CIC that I am pregnant (medical already done) to eradicate any issues while landing?

Seniors please comment.

1) If you move from another country to AB, you will have health care from day one so you will be covered.

2) Many visa offices remind you when you get your passport request that if you foresee changes in your family composition before landing, you should not send your passport but inform them of the changes. You could let the visa office know to please hurry up so you can travel before you have the baby. Sometimes babies come early or your doctor may advise you not to travel. If that happens, you will at least have a record of having told the visa office that you are pregnant. Unless the other parent of the baby is a Canadian, the baby would have to be added to the PR application if it is born outside Canada.

Thank you for the info Leon. I do wish to infirm cic about being pregnant, however I fear this might delay the process, though it should not. Please suggest if I may email them this info and do you feel this can even speed up the process?

You should inform them. The reason is that if the baby is born before you manage to land, your visa becomes invalid as your family composition has now changed. In that case, you would have to return your visa to the visa office, add the baby and then get new visas issued for you and the baby.

If the visa office complains that you should have informed them of the baby and that you are at fault because you didn't, they could tell you that your file is now closed and they will not issue new visas and tell you to apply again from scratch.

This happened to a couple in the US although for them, it was actually clear that they would not be able to land before the baby was born and that they did not read the instructions about not sending their passports.

It is also possible that knowing you are pregnant will make them move a bit faster, who knows.

Though here in India they never mentioned anything about informing them about change in family composition, I get your point. If they dont send me the visa within 70 days n we decide to stay back till the baby is born, I will let them know about the baby on way.

Just make sure you do it ASAP otherwise you may also be victim of misrepresentation, there is no harm informing them but on otherside your whole case might wraped up.
