Hi,

I just wanna know if the Medical Exams should be done at stage 1 when you submit the application or it is requested at later stage after submitting it ?

In check list they indicate Medical Exam but when I go to the website they say the opposite ;

http://www.cic.gc.ca/english/information/medical/medexams-perm.asp

Medical Examination Instructions
Instructions on how to take the medical examination will normally be sent to you after you submit your application to the visa office.

Validity
You can only use your examination results in your application for 12 months from when you had the examination. If you are not admitted to Canada as a permanent resident within this time, you will be required to undergo another examination.

that's right medicals should be done before summiting ..

I did mine 8 months after I submitted my application, it was becos of my misunderstanding though.., it isnt a bad thing to me, cos hopefully I will not have it expired that soon. :)

For inland application before 2012, it was taking so long to get AIP that many people got their medical expired by the time they were into 2nd stage processing and had to redo it.
At some point CIC accepted to extend validity of expired medical but only in some cases, some still hade to redo it.
What we did in our case, was to wait we had received AoR and a Customer ID and then we went for the medical.
To wait that CIC is sending instructions (once AIP is granted) could cause delay in application processing.
In our experience we got the best of both world, longer validity without expiration and no delay in processing since it was sent at least 5 months before we got AIP anyway.
Of course if you apply outland that is another story, what I shared here is my own successful experience.
2012ers and on get their AIP faster so it might be different.
In any case if done prior to sending the application it should be done at the very last minute...

It's a bit of a gamble, but you can do either way.

If you submit the medicals with your original application and everything is done within 1 year, then there will be no wasted time or delay during the application process to do medicals, and the VO will not have to wait to receive the medical results.

However if the processing takes longer than 1 year, then your medicals would expire so you might need to re-do them. In this case it would be better to wait for the request.

So you need to make an educated guess which way is better for your case, depending how long you think the processing will take.

Wouldn't just be easier if you followed CIC's instructions to submit the proof of medicals with the application? Rather than delaying for a request, taking the chance that it will be returned as incomplete?

If you are going through a visa office with super long processing times, or you know your application will raise lots of red flags and good chance of interview which may push the time over 1 year, then you are taking the chance you will need to re-do all the medicals. To some people with several family members needing medicals, at a couple hundred dollars each for all the tests this could lead to a big additional medical bill.

Also i guess it depends on if you are applying inland or outland... i don't think the OP mentioned.

It is outland, in check list they do ask for Medical exam. I know it will take more then a year, as it is the case for my country. But my only concern is that if I don't send the medical with the application (even though on website they say after submitting it will be requested) they may return it indicating it is incomplete.

So I wanna know if anyone who submitted without the Medical exam did they got back the application tagged as incomplete ?

Thanks

I hadnt done my medical exam (i applied inland), and after 8 months of submission, CIC sent me a letter stating that I need to complete a medical exam and finish the police check, plus some more additional documents regarding my relationship with my sponsor.

After I sent them in and did the medical check as requested, I was issued my OWP and AIP around a month later.

I think everyone's case may differ though, just hope what i experienced can serve as an example for u.

For Medical, my 2 years old daughter have to do it too ? I think most test they indicate on the webpage are for +5 years old except the physical test:

About the medical examination

The medical examination includes but is not limited to:

a complete physical examination for all family members;
chest X-ray and a radiologist’s report for everyone aged 11 years and over;
blood test for everyone aged 15 years or over;
urinalysis for everyone aged 5 years or over;
Syphilis and HIV screening tests for everyone aged 15 years and over.

Here is a post from earlier this year: http://www.canadavisa.com/canada-immigration-discussion-board/outland-spousal-sponsorship-sending-medical-exam-after-the-application-t107211.0.html;msg1512735#msg1512735

It shows that with some outland apps the visa office requests you don't do medicals until a later date (in this case it was for Colombia).
HOWEVER the CIC has updated lots of their forms and procedures recently... so make sure to read your country-specific instructions and if there is no mention of special considerations for medicals, then you would need to follow the general CIC rules and submit with your original application.
