Alberta is better because when coming from abroad, you get 1st day coverage while in BC, you have a 3 month waiting period.

Does anyone in Ontario have experience with plans to "replace" OHIP during the initial three month waiting period? I would like my wife to get a check-up, but we need to have some sort of insurance, and my work plan doesn't cover doctor's visits since they're usually covered by OHIP. I was told that there are temporary plans that cover the same things that OHIP covers, at a price. Has anyone ever used this kind of plan?

for landed immigrants ( aka permanent residents ), how long will it take for Saskatchewan health benefits to start ? apparently 2 whole months after arriving in the country.

Special Classes of Newcomers
If you are moving to Saskatchewan from outside of Canada, you may be eligible for Saskatchewan health coverage on, or before, the first day of the third month after arriving in Canada, if you are among one of the groups:

• Permanent residents (landed immigrants)
• People discharged from the Canadian Forces
• Non-immigrants who are in Canada in connection with their trade or profession
• International students
• Returning spouses of Canadian Forces members
• Returning Canadian citizens
