Hey,

I need you guys to help me understand this, whether it is a mistake or this is really needed?

I got an email today saying that medicals for my 3 years old child needs to be done within 30 days!
Nothing about me needing to do the medicals and I did not do them upfront!!

Is this a mistake or will they ask for mine in the future?

Or shall I just for it for me and the child to avoid the back and forth?

Thanks,
elbob

... and in the case that it is not a mistake, did anyone experience a medical examination for a 3 years old?

Here is not yet perfectly toilet trained, do they need urine analysis? if so, how do we get the sample, special pampers?

Also, is there blood work? If so, can we use something like EMLA cream as an anesthetic to avoid the pain?

Are the x-rays too? or is that dangerous on young children?

Your feedback is appreciated,
elbob

Hello!

First, take a deep breath. All will be ok, I assure you!

Ok, here we go:

1) No, it's not a mistake. Your child will need to have a medical, even if their not coming with you to Canada. Both of you need to do your medicals, and submit them promptly. If you wait to do yours until they ask, you'll delay your application maybe a month or more.

2) You should have done them before you submitted your application. Not to be condescending, but it IS called an UPFRONT medical. ;)

3) The exam is a very simple one. You'll fill out a survey about your past and present medical status. Blood pressure, pulse, and other vitals. They'll need some urine for a UA, but they'll know how to obtain what they need from your child without any discomfort. Blood test for you, and if they need from your child, they'll use a very fine needle. Almost no pain.

4) The X-ray is just a chest x-ray (looking for TB), and it's very harmless. The x-ray tech will know just the best way to safely get the x-ray done on your little one. Modern x-ray machines use very little radiation compared to just a couple decades ago.

Here's how to find a Panel Physician. You'll probably need to get the exams scheduled promptly:

The exam for the child will be a simple physical and history, no X-ray, blood or urine tests.

I suggest you arrange for your medical to be done at the same time.

This is true. Make sure you bring with you the child's baby book or better request from your child's pedia to give you a medical certificate showing all the vaccines done since the child was born.

At what age do they start the ua, x-rays, and blood tests? I checked with a friend that works with a panel physician, and she wasn't sure. She's office staff, so I can understand why she might not know.

Not sure with other countries but in the Philippines and at one of the accredited Panel Physicians by CIC; PE, CXR, Urinalysis is for ages 11-14 years old / PE, Urinalysis for ages 5-10 years old / PE for ages 0-4 years old / PE, Urinalysis, CXR, HIV, Syphilis for ages 15 years old and above.

Thanks. Such a learning experience here!

I like sharing what I've learned, and I try to research what I don't know. I felt so frustrated when I started this process, and its the good folk here on this forum that made everything clear. I enjoy helping others, but I don't want to be a source of further confusion.
