Hello,

When would I get a medical card in BC???

After I send my application (Common Law) or do I have to wait if they approved it?

How are the steps and where can I apply?

thanks so much!

8) :)

Question another:
Adress of Ottawa where I can send my Common Law Sponsorship Application?
A police certificate how old can it be if I send my application?

thanks again!

You send it all to Missassauga (sp?) first. The address is in your guides ( which I would read THOROUGHLY at least twice) and also on the website. You send the whole package together ( read both checklists thoroughly and include them as well, it helps a lot. It basically walks you through the forms and if you have other questions, don't hesitate ). Both the applicant and sponsor stuff go in the same package. When the sponsor is approved, your application is forwarded to the appropriate visa office ( which you will be notified where it is and the contact info) and you will be issued a file number. Should you need to update information or send new medicals or other forms.

A police certificate is only valid 3 months so that should be one of the last things you do. Some provinces also require you to have landed first to obtain healthcare, not sure if BC is one though. Check here : http://www.gov.bc.ca/health/ . Most times you must wait 3 months before you have insurance so you may need to find private insurance in the meantime. I hope this helps.

In B.C., you are eligible for MSP as soon as CIC receives your application, but...most people have failed to convince the staff there that they really ARE eligible, since they have been brainwashed to believe that you need AIP to qualify.

If you need/want your coverage NOW, you will really have to fight with them and hope that you get someone that really understands their own rule for those that have submitted a spousal sponsorship application. Having submitted a sponsorship application, makes you a `deemed resident', which is what qualifies you for coverage (after the ~ 3 month waiting period).

I had to fight, but I was one of the lucky ones.

Good luck!

thanks Pongo,

what does it mean after month?

and how do I fight?

>:( :)

You have to wait the balance of the month that CIC received your application + 2 months. For example, if they received your application on Jan 10th you need to wait the rest of January, plus February and March. Your coverage would start on April 1st.

Now...the fight:

You will likely be told that you aren't eligible until you have AIP (first stage approval). This is NOT true, so you will need to speak with a supervisor and hope that s/he knows that you're right. If that doesn't work, you might have to get your MP involved...which is tragic because you ARE eligible!!
