I'm currently in a situation where I'm going to court which involves a child who is going to be one next month and we agreed to go to mediation. The things to consider is we were together but broke up in 2020 of march while I was pregnant when I arrived back to Canada from Spain we agreed at the time I was going to sponsor him here in Canada regardless for the sake of our child. He's from Italy and is here in Ontario, Canada on a visitor visa. We got into a dispute to the point the Police were involved but no changes were made just a police report because of this end incident I decided not to continue to sponsor him. Now we are going to court and we recently agreed to do mediation. He says he wants to stay in Canada to take care of our child financial and wouldn't be able to do so in Italy because of the hint with the virus. I am considering sponsoring but only if mediation is set and final just to protect myself if we get into an dispute like last time. But he says based on immigration lawyers he's talked that we should scrap the whole court and mediation and just sponsor him because if we wait until after mediation immigration is going to see he was in court and they won't accept him for sponsorship.
I feel pressured just because I have a child with him

You can't sponsor him and also go into mediation. Sponsoring him means you are in a real and ongoing relationship, which you aren't.

Are you ready to commit misrepresentation (lie in an immigration application that you are going to send to Canadian government officials)?

Are you ready to be financially responsible for your ex for five years after he becomes a PR? This means that if he goes on social assistance at any time during that period, you will be responsible for paying this money back to the government.

Don't listen to him. Don't sponsor him.

The lawyer is giving bad advice. He's advising you to break the law.

Information about taking care of him even AFTER getting the PR wasn't brought up, especially the fact that he's on a visitor visa and is doing LAO to cover the court cost.

I've tried to give alternatives such as to go to school or get a trade that could get him sponsored but he thinks it's better to do it his way. Heck I was even saying to try for Saskatchewan.
I know I don't want to but I feel like my arm is being twisted because of our child together.

Thank you for pointing these things to me
