Hi,

I have an MBA offer starting Aug'14 from University of Victoria, BC. I have been working in IT Multinationals without any gap for last 14 years after doing my Bachelor of Technology in Mechanical. I have travelled and worked extensively in US and UK on IT assignments for around 8 years on separate assignments. I plan to apply for study permit in March with my spouse and two kids aged 8 years and 4 years. I have sufficient funds to show to VO and maintain my family for the MBA duration and therefore I can solely concentrate on studies. I would be grateful if members in this forum can answer my below queries -

a) What is the probability of getting study visa with family ? I am not in a position to travel alone. In terms of home ties, I can show good paying stable job, clean travel history to US and UK, two property in my name and sufficient liquid funds. I have bachelors degree so getting Masters degree is a natural progression. On the flip side , I intend to go for master after 14 years of employment. Any other point I should be cautious about while filing for permit ?

b) I am also hopeful of getting offer From Haskayne School of Business for MBA. How would UVic MBA compare with Calgary MBA ? What would you recommend given my fairly good experience in IT . Personally, I would like to stay in Vancouver but job and salary prospects seem to be brighter in Calgary.

c) Finally, I plan to get visa stamped before the FSW program opens in May. Assuming my occupation would appear in NOC, I will apply for PR in my home country. I would still fly on study visa in Aug'14 while the FSW PR application is in progress. What happens if the PR application is successful? Are there any pitfalls in this approach ? Would this create a problem during my study or PGWP or any stage thereafter?

Many thanks for your inputs.

It is not a problem in Canada. Howver, could you show VO in your SOP WHY you need masters? MBA and not MSc? In Canada but neither in USA nor UK nor in home country?

It's pretty normal from Canadaian point of view as long as you have "good paying stable job, clean travel history to US and UK, two property in my name and sufficient liquid funds."

There is no such a gradation of schools in Canada as it is in USA. I would say UoV is more prestigious than Calgary but in terms of job there are IT jobs in BC but they are mostly "games creation" . In Calgary they are more applied to serving Oil and Gas industry.

Thank you for your advises. I am pleased to inform that my study application has been approved with family.
However, I have a query further. The Indian passport of my daughter expires in March'15 and therefore her TRV as well as study permit will be issued only till Mar'15. She is 8 years old. I can get the passport renewed from embassy. However , would it be really difficult to get her TRV and study permit extended for her based on my study permit duration. Apart from expenditure , do you see any complications ?

Most likely the program will not reopen in May because CIC is launching the new EOI process in January.

Congrats. Which program did you decide on? UVic or Calgary?

Calgary result is still awaited. However study application is filed on basis of UVIC. Most probably , I will go with Calgary if it goes through.

As long as your status is valid, you shouldn't have any issues renewing her study permit/TRV. I would suggest applying online since the processing time is faster.

Hi, Got offer from Univ of Calgary for MBA. However, my study permit with family is approved for UVIc. I plan to join UoC. Do I need to inform VO on these change of universities as the joining date and fees of both programs are different ? I think the visa start and end date will be given accordingly so it is necessary. Please advise.
