Hello Experts,

I am planning for landing with my wife and baby in April. I will travel from Karachi and Land in Toronto.

-What is maximum cash allowed to carry from Pakistan?
-I have heard that 10k USD is limit for individual travelling from Pakistan? Can anyone confirm?
-What about family can we carry 10k each?
-Any restriction on cash from Canadian side?
-Health insurance coverage is not their for initial 3 months in ON. What will experts recommend? Should I buy private insurance for initial 90 days ? I have 1.5 year old baby with me. What is average cost for this coverage?

Thanks for your help and support.

There is a maximum of 10k you can bring to Canada without reporting it. If you report it to customs that you are bringing more, then there is no problem.

According to the link below, the maximum cash allowed to carry out from Pakistan is now $5000 per person. Each child up to 12 years would be entitled to 50pc allowance while an infant would be permitted an allowance of 25pc. There is no restriction on the Canadian side aside that you need to declare any funds in the amount CAN$10,000 or more.

For health insurance, why don't you land in Alberta, so that you can enjoy health coverage without waiting?

As per last advice, be aware that if you do land in a province with first day health care, you should do so with the intention of living there for at least 6 months. These are generally the eligibility requirements for health care in most provinces and if you leave sooner, you could have a problem as they may consider that to be fraud and make you re-pay what they covered for you.

If you want to go to Ontario, any travel insurance should be fine as long as you have emergency illness and accident coverage for the 3 months. For routine visits, you can pay yourself. It would not be that expensive.
